MOOSE RIVER RAFTING TRIPS

New York's Moose River has two seasons:  adrenaline pumping spring releases & relaxing summer flows.

The spring white water rafting trip is not for beginners. Since a flip or swim is likely on this 14-mile whitewater run, previous Class V rafting experience is required, minimum age is 18 and you must be physically fit.  This technical whitewater rafting trip is for the experienced paddler and is available during April only.  Our Moose River outpost is located in Old Forge, N.Y.   In the morning, rafters meet the guides, sign a general release, grab a lifejacket and paddle and listen to the safety instruction.  Wetsuits are required and can be rented at the check-in.  After a full day of rafting this technical river  (otherwise referred to as "slam-dancing with Mother Nature") you end the day with a hot buffet meal at the Waters Edge Inn and Conference Center.  In the springtime, the Moose River is notoriously fickle because it relies on spring rains and snowmelt.  The water level can vary wildly from week to week sometimes making it too high or too low to raft.  Guests are asked to call the week before to reconfirm the trip.

When the river slows in July and August, it offers a delightful trip for beginners and families.  Our inflatable kayak trips are a great introduction to whitewater and a unique way to experience the river up close.  This is a delightful warm water trip for those as young as 8.  Trips originate in Old Forge, N.Y. and are available river levels permitting.
